On Sundays, the Emschergenossenschaft regularly organizes guided bike tours along the Emscher Art Trail. They are free of charge and designed by the Urbane Künste Ruhr team.
This coming Sunday, May 22, 2022, there will be a special kind of bike tour from 2 to 5 p.m.: Curator Marijke Lukowicz will accompany the approximately 20 km route. At Urbane Künste Ruhr, she is in charge of the now 21 works along the Emscher and is in close contact with the artists. She will provide the cyclists with a lot of additional information about the sculptures and monuments. During the bike tour, the curator explains how the artists have dealt with the history of the Ruhr region, as the works address the eventful history of the Emscher conversion and the Ruhr region in very different ways.
The guided bike tour starts on the grounds of the Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex. The photo exhibition there, »Beyond Emscher« by the Emschergenossenschaft, offers an opportunity in advance to experience the impressive transformation of the former industrial river and its region. The tour ends at the Theater der Pflanzen in Bottrop’s Berne Park.
